A Tool for Self Objectification presents a reflection of the world in which the viewer’s irises are replaced by cartoon like eyeballs that refuse to make eye contact. Instead, the computer generated eyes focus lower down on the viewer’s body, regardless gender. This piece questions the role of our bodies in society and the arts by allowing the self objectifier / viewer to see themselves in the act of self objectification, giving her or him a moment of pause to break the association.
This piece will be on view in the ASU GPSA Gallery exhibition Objectify This from 5 March 2013 – 30 April 2013. The opening reception is 5 March 2013, 6:00 – 8:00pm.
